Step-by-step hints for Level 57

Press the button to reveal one step at a time. Each step fills or crosses out cells in a single row or column, in the order a careful player would find them.

  1. Step 1: Column 3 - the clues 1 1 6 plus one gap between blocks add up to 10, so the whole line is fixed. (8 filled, 2 crossed out)
  2. Step 2: Column 5 - the clue 2 4 leaves only 3 free cells, so the middle of each long block must be filled. (1 filled)
  3. Step 3: Column 9 - the clue 6 leaves only 4 free cells, so the middle of each long block must be filled. (2 filled)
  4. Step 4: Row 1 - with the cells already marked, only one arrangement of 4 fits these positions. (1 filled, 4 crossed out)
  5. Step 5: Row 3 - with the cells already marked, only one arrangement of 1 2 1 fits these positions. (1 crossed out)
  6. Step 6: Row 4 - with the cells already marked, only one arrangement of 1 3 1 fits these positions. (1 filled)
  7. Step 7: Row 5 - with the cells already marked, only one arrangement of 5 1 1 fits these positions. (5 filled, 3 crossed out)
  8. Step 8: Row 6 - with the cells already marked, only one arrangement of 1 1 1 1 fits these positions. (4 crossed out)

Tips for 10x10 grids

Big grids reward patience. Do a full pass over all rows, then all columns, and only fill cells you can prove. On a 10x10 board a single crossed-out cell often unlocks a whole line, so mark empties as carefully as fills.

Where players go wrong on Level 57

  • The longest line is Column 3 with the clue 1 1 6, and it is a full line: its blocks and gaps add up to the whole length, so fill it first and let it anchor the lines that cross it.
  • Row 8 has the fewest filled cells (3). Cross out its empty cells early; they unlock 2 columns.
  • The last line the logic finishes is Row 3. If you are stuck there, every other line is already done, so recount its clue 1 2 1.
